Flunil is prescribed for the treatment of depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (persistent intrusive thoughts and the compulsion to repeat certain behaviors), various eating disorders, and panic attacks (sudden episodes of intense fear and anxiety regarding these episodes). It also alleviates the symptoms associated with premenstrual dysphoric disorder, which can include mood swings, irritability, bloating, and breast tenderness. Flunil belongs to a category of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), functioning by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, a natural compound that helps in maintaining mental stability.

Flunil can be taken with or without food. Typically, it is administered once daily in the morning or twice daily, in the morning and at noon. Carefully adhere to the instructions on your prescription label, and consult your doctor or pharmacist for any clarifications needed. Take Flunil exactly as prescribed; do not adjust the dosage or frequency without your doctor’s guidance.

Your doctor may initiate treatment with a low dose of Flunil, gradually increasing it as needed. It can take 4 to 5 weeks or longer to feel the full effects of the medication. Continue taking Flunil even if you start to feel better. Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor first. Abruptly stopping Flunil can lead to withdrawal symptoms, including mood fluctuations, irritability, agitation, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the extremities, anxiety, confusion, headaches, fatigue, and trouble sleeping. Your doctor will likely taper your dosage gradually.

Potential side effects include nervousness, nausea, dry mouth, sore throat, drowsiness, weakness, involuntary shaking of any body part, decreased appetite, weight loss, variations in sexual drive or function, and excessive sweating.

Before taking any medication for pain, arthritis, fever, or inflammation, including aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, indomethacin, piroxicam, nabumetone, etodolac, and others, consult your doctor. Combining these medications with Flunil may increase the risk of easy bruising or bleeding.
If an overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
